Things to See in Mannheim:
The most famous sight in the city, is the Barockschloss Manheim, the largest Baroque palace in Germany. Guided and audio tours are available, with special themes on the weekends. The recently restored state-rooms are eye-boggling, in all the excess of the Rococo period, with lashings of stucco, marble, porcelain and chandeliers. The gardens are extensive, and are home to open air events. A relaxing day out is to cycle from the royal summer residence in Mannheim, to the winter palace in Schwetzingen, over 20 kilometres of cycleways.
The town is known as the city of squares, as it is laid out in a grid pattern, and its charming Romanesque water tower is an icon of the city.
