The Year of the Pig is the time to lock in new experiences

Today marks the The Year of the Pig - and if you haven’t already, it’s time to start making those 2019 travel plans. There’s nothing better than having an epic trip booked as something to look forward to. We’ve found five really cool options depending on what you’re wanting to achieve this year. Is your 2019 needing more adventure, or maybe a little relaxation?

Get up close and view these beautiful monkeys in the wild

Eco friendly

Do some good and visit the lush Udzungwa Mountains National Park. There are no roads once inside and it’s Tanzania’s first national park created to protect flora rather than fauna. It's also one of the most important areas in Africa for primate diversity and conservation, with two endemic monkeys (Udzungwa red colobus and Sanje mangabey), and the near-endemic kipunji monkey.

Soothe your soul at the Polynesian Spa pools in Rotorua

Relaxing getaway

New Zealand’s city of Rotorua is a geothermal wonderland. The Polynesian Spa is the place to be for rejuvenating the soul. Soak your bones in the hot pools, or take a volcanic mud bath which is amazing for skin. Holidays are full of adventure, but sometimes it’s important to take ‘you time’. Block out an uninterrupted day where you can unwind, relax and let the natural minerals work their magic.

Fingals Cave is only accessible by boat tour but it’s well worth it

Epic adventure

While you’re on a motorhome holiday in Scotland, you must visit the Isle of Staffa where you’ll find Fingal's Cave, famed for its hypnotic acoustics, spellbinding colours and hexagonally jointed basalt. Did you know, both the Giant’s Causeway and Fingal’s Cave were created by the same ancient lava flow, which may at one time have formed a natural bridge between Scotland and Ireland.

Portuguese custard tarts are enough of a drawcard to visit Belém

Gastronomic delights

Did you hear? Portugal was the ‘friendliest country of 2018’ - if that’s not enough then maybe a visit to Belém is. It’s a tram ride away from Downtown Lisbon and it’s worth the ride just to get your hands on Pastéis de Belém, the Portuguese egg custard pastry, where it was perfected back in 1837. Queues for the sweet, rich and perfectly crisp tarts often stretch along the pavement so be prepared to wait. Do you need more reasons to visit Portugal?

Blaisvatnet in Norway is tranquil untouched beauty which needs to be experienced in person

Off the beaten path

The year wouldn't be complete without experiencing the enchanting wilderness, so we recommend a trip that includes scenic alpine lakes. Blåisvatnet is arguably Norway's most picturesque glacial-fed lake. This is truly one of the hidden gems of Northern Norway. Take a moment to breathe in that fresh mountain air. Take a good camera, an take in the contrasting blue and grey palette that make up the surroundings.

Explore more during The Year of the Pig - after all, travel opens your mind and allows you to immerse yourself among new cultures. You’ll learn more about the world around you, as well as getting to know yourself better along the way.

Exploring by motorhome is my favourite way to immerse myself in a different place/culture. My favourite so far? The Southern States of the USA - epic food, amazing people and the most beautiful scenery. I could go on about that trip forever!
