Plan a Summer Escape
The Christmas holidays are nearly here - yippee! Have you made plans yet? With Australians holidaying here this year, it's the perfect time to book in a motorhome holiday for the coming summer months. If you're keen to hit the road, be quick as the early bird gets the worm - book now before the availability runs out. Here are two epic itineraries to get you inspired and planning.
Coastal dream
The Sapphire Coast provides the perfect getaway for Sydneysiders (or anyone wanting to fly into Sydney and drive a motorhome from there). It’s called the Sapphire coast for a reason and those blue seas will have you stopping every 15 minutes to marvel at the views.
Stop at the famous Kiama Blowhole (it really is quite impressive) beautiful Mollymook beach - pop up to Rick Stein’s for dinner or even just a pizza and drink at the pool bar - the views are stunning. If you’re a fan of oysters, Batemans Bay has to be your next stop and quaint Narooma is also lovely - make sure you do some seal spotting around the rocks. Central Tilba is a step back in time to Australia as it was, with beautifully preserved buildings perfect for pottering for gifts, homewares, and of course chocolate and cheese.
Eden is an incredible spot for whale watching as a stunning finish to a great trip, or a turnaround point to go back up to Sydney and stop at all the places you loved on the way down.
Perth to Perth
For a return itinerary, consider a 10 day road trip heading south from Perth to Bussleton, Margaret River, Pemberton, Albany and then east to Ravensthorpe, Kalgoorlie and back to Perth via Merredin. This round trip is 2114km and has plenty of sights and gorgeous spots to park up and replenish supplies.
Must-sees include The Busselton Jetty, which boasts a train to transport you on the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere - and an Underwater Observatory. Foodies should stop by one of the many wineries in the Margaret River Wine Region or indulge at boutique cheese or chocolate factories. Walk off the chocolate with a stroll through the Beedlup National Park forests - 19km west of Pemberton. For some local history visit the Historic Whaling Station situated on the Flinders Peninsula near Albany and take two days to explore the Fitzgerald River National Park from your Ravensthorpe base. Twilight Beach is close to Esperance and is one of the most popular beaches in Australia. Prospect for gold in the gold mining town of Kalgoolie and pull into the Zig Zag Wildflower Garden in Merredin, which is always open. Finishing off back in the capital of Western Australia, stay for a few more days to indulge in everything Perth has to offer.
