A Picnic in South Australia...
If your campervan adventures are taking you to South Australia this summer, there’s bound to be plenty of picnicking opportunities. SA is well-known for its incredible food and wine, so it would be rude not to purchase some of its amazing artisan produce and eat it outside on a rug - preferably with a glass of something cold and refreshing. It’s part of the local experience.
Here are some great spots you might like to investigate on your South Australian motorhome travels this year:
Rapid Bay Beach, Fleurieu Peninsula
If you’ve even seen pictures of Rapid Bay you’ll see why you’d want to picnic there - and take pictures to make all your friends jealous! Its towering cliffs, white sands and clear clear water are nothing short of movie-set magical. There’s so much to do after you’ve finished your al fresco feast - fish from the jetty, swim, snorkel. Or just lie down and have a nap in the sun. Bliss.
Blue Lake, Mount Gambier
Once an extinct volcano, Mount Gambier’s Blue Lake is the most beautiful iridescent blue (funnily enough) from November to February. You can stop at lookout to have your picnic, drink in the views, then walk the 45 minute lake trail at your leisure.
Stamford Beach, Lincoln National Park
If exploring Lincoln National Park is on your motorhome adventure list, kick your afternoon off with a picnic at Stamford Beach. Its ruggedness and wild South Australian beauty will take your breath away. Be entranced by the wildflowers, go fishing, take a dip or wander one of the many trails. Kids will love the bird action near the cliffs.
Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens, Adelaide
Botanical Gardens alway make a stunning backdrop for a picnic and Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens’ hillside setting is no exception. Stroll amongst the beautiful blooms in this 97-hectare garden and choose your perfect spot to roll out the rug and feast on your treats (we highly recommend stocking up from Adelaide Central Market before setting off - it has everything you need for the perfect spread, and then some)
Stradbroke Road Picnic Area, Morialta Conservation Park, Adelaide
This is classic Australian hiking and climbing scenery at its best, and only ten minutes drive from the city! Families love Stradbroke Road picnic area because of Mukanthi Playspace and its five play areas right nearby. After you’ve finished eating, walk one of the trails, spot some waterfalls and a koala or two if you’re lucky.
